Plants and Places : Angie Lewin

Today I wanted to share some images from the wonderful world of Angie Lewin, having just purchased her book Plants and Places, published in 2010. I’m now on my third cup of tea while scrolling through every exquisite page, taking in every beautiful image while at the same time reading about Lewin’s creative process.

Inspired by nature, Lewin has a unique style and way of translating what she sees into playful shapes, patterns and marks. She uses a range of techniques in her print work including wood engraving, screen printing, lithography and linocut.

The stylised prints have a strong Festival of Britain 1950s feel, yet the combination of colour and  layout ensures that the prints remain fresh, with a hint of nostalgia. The balance of each piece seems perfectly calculated, so pleasant on the eye they just look ‘right’, which for me evokes a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

It is an amazing and inspiring book, highly recommended for enthusiasts and designers alike.
